  • Dead Sea Ultra Marathon

"Run to the lowest point on Earth" - that was the watchword of the 14th Dead Sea Ultra Marathon organized with a great deal of effort, by the Society for the Care of Neurological Patients under the patronage of HRH Prince Raad Bin Zeid.

The marathon consisted of five runs: the 48.7 km Ultra Marathon, 42 km Marathon, 21 km Half Marathon, 10 km Fun Marathon and a 4.2 km Junior Marathon.

DSUM involved 1800 runners from 48 nationalities - not only professional athletes or champions but also amateurs and tourists willing to compete and to have a great time.

One of the participants of the 14th Dead Sea Ultra Marathon was the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Jordan - Andrzej Biera - who completed the distance of 42 km in the time of 5:51:59. The participants of the Classic Marathon started at Marj al Hammam near Amman and the run led them to the beautiful Amman Tourist Beach at the Dead Sea.

The 14th Dead Sea Ultra Marathon was the main fund rising event for the Society which provides neurological patients with medical aid and covers the costs of necessary surgery for the needy. So far, the Society has contributed towards the treatment of 940 neurological cases at a cost of nearly 600, 000 JD (850, 000 USD).
